Mounjaro – Weight Loss Injection
Mounjaro is a once-weekly self-injection clinically proven to help you lose an average of 22.5% of your body weight. It is GPhC regulated, inclusive of consultation and private prescription, and delivered discreetly to your door. Prices start from £148.00. Based on 2,062 reviews, it has been tested across 72-week clinical trials. Needles are included with every pen.
Why Choose Mounjaro? Mounjaro uses dual hormone action — working on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors — making it more effective than single-agonist treatments. It reduces appetite, slows digestion, and regulates blood sugar. It is safe for long-term use, backed by the SURMOUNT trials, and manufactured by Eli Lilly, a trusted pharmaceutical company since 1876.
How Mounjaro Works Mounjaro works in three key ways. First, it reduces appetite by acting on GLP-1 and GIP receptors to signal fullness to the brain, curbing cravings and making portion control easier. Second, it slows digestion — food leaves the stomach more slowly, keeping you satisfied longer and reducing unnecessary snacking. Third, it regulates blood sugar by improving insulin response and stabilising blood sugar levels, which reduces hunger spikes throughout the day.
Pharmacist Jason Murphy (Head Pharmacist, GPhC #2235439) advises: “Mounjaro works best when paired with lifestyle changes — a balanced diet, staying active, and building healthy habits you can stick with. Combining these with your treatment gives you the best chance of reaching your weight loss goals safely.”
Dosing Schedule All new users start at the lowest dose of 2.5mg and gradually increase. During weeks 1–4, the starting dose of 2.5mg is taken once a week to help the body adjust. From weeks 5–8, the dose increases to 5mg, which most people tolerate well. Weeks 9–12 move to 7.5mg, gradually boosting results. By weeks 13–16, the dose reaches 10mg, where steady weight loss typically begins. Weeks 17–20 bring a 12.5mg dose for extra support if needed. From week 21 onwards, the maximum maintenance dose of 15mg is taken once weekly, as advised by your prescriber.
SURMOUNT Clinical Trial Results Mounjaro underwent four major randomised, placebo-controlled trials. SURMOUNT-1 ran for 72 weeks across 2,539 participants and achieved an average weight loss of 22.5% at 15mg, with up to 57% of participants losing 20% or more of their body weight. SURMOUNT-2, also 72 weeks with 938 people, showed strong results specifically in participants with type 2 diabetes, with an average loss of 14.7%. SURMOUNT-3 demonstrated 21.1% average weight loss even after an initial diet and exercise programme, proving additive benefit. SURMOUNT-4 tested long-term maintenance over 36 weeks open-label plus 52 weeks randomised in around 700 people, showing 21% average loss — and importantly, patients who continued Mounjaro kept the weight off, while those who stopped regained much of it.
Eligibility Mounjaro is suitable for adults with a BMI over 30, or a BMI over 27 with a weight-related health condition such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or type 2 diabetes. Candidates should be committed to lifestyle changes alongside treatment and must complete a short online medical consultation before a prescription is issued.
Common Questions
Mounjaro starts working from the first dose, with many people noticing reduced appetite within the first week. More visible weight changes typically appear over the following months as the dose increases.
If a dose is missed and fewer than four days have passed, take it and continue as normal. If more than four days have passed, skip it and resume on the regular day. If more than two weeks have passed, contact your prescriber. Never double-dose.
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but the criteria are stricter — requiring a BMI of 40 or above and at least four weight-related conditions, accessible only through specialist services. Private prescriptions through Medicine4U are faster and more accessible.
All new users must begin at 2.5mg to ensure the body responds well and side effects are minimised. The dose is then increased gradually over several months.
When a prescription is issued, a letter is sent to the patient’s GP to keep all healthcare professionals informed of their current medication.
The most commonly reported side effects across trials were nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, and vomiting — typically mild and improving as the body adjusts.
